Step by step
Approve a till device
Approve the computers, tablets and phones that sell for your business, for a branch or one till, and decide whether each may keep selling when the connection drops.
Till devices are “The phones, tablets and computers that sell for the business.” Approving one tells Kila it is yours: “Only approved devices sell offline; with approved devices switched on, only they open a shift or sell at all.” A device asks the first time someone sells on it. An owner or manager at the till approves it there; anyone else asks for approval.
At the till, name the device
On a device that is not approved, the top of the till says: “This device is not registered for selling. Ask an owner or manager to approve it from the till. Until then the till sells only with a connection.” Type a name in Name this device, such as Counter PC, so everyone knows which one it is.
Steps 1 and 2, on the till. Tap Approve this device
Only an owner or manager sees it. Kila says Counter PC approved: “This device can sell here now.” The till stops asking. Anyone else taps Ask for approval: see When someone asks below.
On Till devices, tap Change
The device is listed with who approved it and when.
Choose where it sells
In Where it sells, choose the branch, or Every branch. Under Till: “Pin it to one till, or let it sell on any till at the branch.”
Decide whether it may sell offline
Tick May sell offline: “When the connection drops it keeps selling (cash, M-Pesa codes, bank transfers) and syncs later.” It keeps to the business’s offline limits, which Kila names under Its own offline limits; tick that to set Hours offline and Value sold offline for this device alone.
Steps 4 to 6 in one dialog. Tap Save
Kila says Saved: “The change is in the audit log.” The device now reads, for example, Baraza, Thika, Till 1 only · Sells offline.
When someone asks

Tap Approve, choose where it sells and whether it may sell offline, as in steps 4 and 5, and tap Approve. The person who asked cannot approve their own request:
A device you do not recognise, or one that is lost or replaced
Link to this section: A device you do not recognise, or one that is lost or replacedTap Refuse while it waits, or Revoke once it is approved, and give a reason: it is “Kept in the audit log and shown at the till.”
You want only approved devices to sell
Link to this section: You want only approved devices to sellUntil then the page says Approved devices are switched off: “Any signed-in device can sell with a connection. Offline selling is only for approved devices.” With them switched on, it says: “A device that is not approved for a branch cannot open a shift or sell there, on any front desk.” The till on such a device says This device is not approved for selling here until someone approves it.
Good to know
Till devices says “An owner switches approved devices on under Plan and modules (Point of sale features).” Plan and modules lists Approved devices among the Point of sale features, On or Off, and says “Feature switches are managed by Kila. Ask your account manager to change one.” So ask Kila to switch approved devices on for your business.
Needs a manager
Approving devices needs the permission Approve till devices, which owners, administrators, general managers and branch managers have. Someone who covers one branch approves devices for that branch only.
- Set up a receipt printer, drawer or scale: what is plugged into each till.
- Set up your till: everything a new till needs, the first time.
- Open a shift: the first thing a cashier does on the till.
- Find an action in the audit log: who approved or revoked a device.
Next: set up the till’s receipt printer: Set up a receipt printer, drawer or scale.
