Step by step
Take cash
Tap the note the customer hands you, or type the amount, and Kila shows the change to give. The sale's amount goes on your shift as cash in the drawer.
Kila works out the change for you. Everything you take in cash goes in your drawer and on your shift until you count it at the end.
Before you start
Link to this section: Before you start- Your shift is open: the till shows your shift number at the top. If not, open a shift first.
Tap Charge
With the products in the cart, tap Charge KES …. Kila opens Take payment with the Amount due.
Tap Cash
Kila offers the amounts customers usually hand over: Exact and round amounts above the total, such as 1,000 and 2,000.
Enter what the customer gave you
If it is one of the buttons, tap it: Kila takes it and completes the sale at once. Otherwise type it in Cash received: Kila shows the Change to give as you type.
Tap Take cash
Kila completes the sale.
Give the change
Kila shows Sale S-… complete with the Change to give in large figures, and the receipt beside it. Count out the change.
Tap New sale
The till is ready for the next customer.
What goes in the drawer
Link to this section: What goes in the drawerKila counts the sale‘s amount as cash in your drawer, not the note you were given: you put KES 1,000 in and gave KES 400 back, so the drawer holds KES 600 more. Tap your shift number at the top of the till to see Cash expected now. It is the figure Kila compares with your count when you close the shift.
Good to know
Change for an M-Pesa, card or bank transfer payment that was more than the bill also comes out of your drawer, and Kila expects that much less cash. See Take M-Pesa.
The customer gives less than the total
Link to this section: The customer gives less than the totalWhere your business takes split payments, type what they gave in Cash received: Kila shows Still to pay after this. Tap Take cash and Kila shows Still to pay with Payment 2 of the split: take the rest another way, such as M-Pesa. See Take more than one payment on a sale. To start again, tap the x next to the cash line.
Otherwise Kila shows Short of the total by and Take cash stays grey: ask the customer for the rest.
You took cash but recorded another method
Link to this section: You took cash but recorded another methodThe sale can be corrected afterwards, and the amount moves to your shift’s cash. See Correct a payment method.
- How shifts and cash-ups work: what Kila expects in the drawer, line by line.
- Take M-Pesa: when the customer pays from their phone.
- Cashier: your day on the till.
Next: at the end of your shift, close it: count the drawer and Kila compares it with what it expects.
