Step by step
Set up eTIMS and KRA item codes
Give your products their KRA item codes, then record your KRA PIN and eTIMS device under Integrations. eTIMS runs in test mode for now, so nothing is sent to KRA yet.
“eTIMS is how every sale reaches KRA.” Kila needs two things from you: a KRA item code on every product, and your KRA PIN with your eTIMS device, the OSCU serial KRA gives you.
Not available yet
Kila is not connected to KRA yet. Receipts carry test numbers and say “eTIMS test mode - not a valid fiscal receipt”. What works today: you record your KRA PIN and device, give your products their codes, and every sale is confirmed by Kila’s eTIMS test service, not by KRA.
Give your products KRA item codes

“eTIMS reports every product with its KRA item classification code. Give each category a code, and products their own where they differ.”
Give each category a code
Under Codes by category, choose the code next to each category: “A product without its own code takes its category’s.” Kila saves each one as you choose it. Nuru General Store gives Household 47130000 Cleaning and janitorial supplies, Drinks 50200000 Beverages and Personal care 53130000 Personal care products.
Give the rest their own code
Products without a code lists any product left with none: “Choose them and give them a code together.” Tick them, choose the code and tap Give the code; the button counts the ones you ticked, as in Give 3 the code. A product that needs a different code from its category gets its own on its page, in KRA item code.
Good to know
Kila’s list of codes is a starting point: “Kila’s starting list is a guide based on KRA’s classification. Check each code against KRA’s published list or your eTIMS integrator before going live.” Your own list goes in Your own list of codes, one a line: the code, a comma, then its name.
Record your eTIMS device

Or tap Connect M-Pesa and eTIMS on M-Pesa till or paybill in your set-up checklist.
Tap Connect on KRA eTIMS (OSCU)
“Fiscal invoices and credit notes through the online sales control unit.”
Type your KRA PIN and your device's serial
KRA PIN and eTIMS device or OSCU serial are needed. KRA branch code is optional.
Leave Mode on Test mode
Test mode (nothing is sent to KRA): “In test mode receipts say “eTIMS test mode - not a valid fiscal receipt”.” The other mode, Live with KRA (not connected yet), “waits for Kila’s KRA connection; until then invoices are kept as not sent.”
Tap Save and connect
Kila says KRA eTIMS (OSCU) saved: “The KRA PIN and device are recorded on your compliance checklist.” The card shows Connected, KRA PIN recorded and Device registered, and how many invoices the test service confirmed in the last 30 days.
Two steps of your set-up checklist tick themselves off: KRA eTIMS and item codes, and M-Pesa till or paybill, which now says M-Pesa connected, eTIMS connected.
- “A KRA PIN looks like P051234567M. Check the PIN and try again.” A KRA PIN is a letter (P or A), nine numbers and a letter.
- A new product cannot be saved. With eTIMS set up, “Every product needs a code once eTIMS is connected”: Kila says “Give Sugar 1kg its KRA item classification code. eTIMS needs one on every product it reports.” Give the product a code, or its category one.
- Add your products: the KRA item code of one product.
- Your set-up checklist: steps 8 and 9.
- Integrations and API: what each connection does today.
