Sell from a scale label

Scan the label the counter scale prints. Kila reads the cut and its weight from the barcode and prices it per kg, with no weighing at the till.

A labelling scale at the counter weighs the meat and prints a label with a barcode. The barcode holds the cut’s PLU and the weight, so at the till you scan it and the cut goes into the cart at that weight, priced from the price per kg.

  • Each cut sold by weight has the PLU your scale uses, on the product as Scale PLU code: 00102 for boneless beef at Nyama Bora Butchery. See Selling by weight.
  • The scale knows each PLU. Products › Shelf labels helps: “Weighed goods show the price per kg and their PLU.”
  1. Weigh the cut and print its label on the scale

Put the meat on the labelling scale with the cut’s PLU and print the label. The barcode on it holds the PLU and the weight.

  2. Scan the label at the till

Scan it into the till’s search box, or type its 13 digits there and press Enter. There is no Weigh step: the label already holds the weight.

  3. Check the line

The cut goes into the cart at the label’s weight and your price per kg: 0.850 kg × KES 950.00/kg for boneless beef. At Nyama Bora Butchery the cents come off, so the line is KES 807.00. Scan the next label: each one is a line of its own.

    Steps 2 and 3.
The till after two scale labels were scanned into the search box (2): Boneless beef (steak cubes), 0.850 kg × KES 950.00/kg, KES 0.50 off, KES 807.00 (3), and Goat meat on the bone, 1.420 kg × KES 900.00/kg, KES 1,278.00.The till after two scale labels were scanned into the search box (2): Boneless beef (steak cubes), 0.850 kg × KES 950.00/kg, KES 0.50 off, KES 807.00 (3), and Goat meat on the bone, 1.420 kg × KES 900.00/kg, KES 1,278.00.

Then take the payment as for any sale.

Kila reads labels the way the Weighed goods rules lay them out: 13 digits starting with 2, then the PLU in five digits and the weight in grams in five digits, with a check digit at the end. 2000102008506 is PLU 00102 and 0.850 kg.

  • The weight on the label is what is sold. Kila does not take a container off again.
  • The price is Kila’s. The line is priced from the cut’s price per kg in Kila, whatever price the scale has. After a price change, key the new price per kg into the scale too, so the label and the till agree.

Good to know

The label layout is part of the Weighed goods rules, not a setting on your screens. If your scales print the price in the barcode instead of the weight, contact Kila support before you use those labels at the till.

Kila shows:

No product has PLU 999

Set the PLU on the product to the number the scale uses.

The scale has a PLU that no cut has in Kila. Sell this cut by weight on the till for now: Sell meat by weight. Then someone who manages products sets the cut’s Scale PLU code to the number on the scale.

A label with PLU 00999 scanned: Kila says No product has PLU 999 (1), Set the PLU on the product to the number the scale uses.A label with PLU 00999 scanned: Kila says No product has PLU 999 (1), Set the PLU on the product to the number the scale uses.

Next: take the payment as for any sale.
