Pay your fees by M-Pesa

One payment can cover all your children: Kila sends one M-Pesa prompt to your phone and shares the money out over their fees. You get a receipt straight away.

Before you start

• Sign in to your parent portal: see Your parent portal.
• Have the phone with your M-Pesa line at hand.

Steps

1. Tap Pay fees by M-Pesa

   On Children, tap Pay fees by M-Pesa.

2. Tick the children you are paying for

   Each child shows what they owe, such as Owes KES 31,500.00. The children who owe are ticked already.

3. Leave the amount empty, or type what you are paying

   Empty, you pay everything the children you ticked owe: “Empty: KES 31,500.00, what the children chosen owe.” Type an amount to pay part of it. “The oldest debts are paid first; each child’s statement shows their share.”

4. Type your M-Pesa phone number

   Send the prompt stays grey until the number is in.

5. Tap Send the prompt

   Kila sends the prompt to the phone. Until Kila’s M-Pesa connection is live, it sends none and says Not sent: see What if.

6. Enter your M-Pesa PIN on your phone

   The form says Check your phone: “Check your phone ending 306 and enter your M-Pesa PIN. We will confirm here.”

7. Read the receipt and tap Close

   When M-Pesa confirms, Kila says Paid: “Thank you. Receipt FR-…. The balances update in a moment.” Tap Close. The child’s card shows the new balance, and the payment is on their Fee statement.

What if

The portal says Not sent

Kila shows:

Not sent

M-Pesa prompts are not connected to Safaricom yet: Kila’s M-Pesa simulator runs only on the demo site. Ask the customer to pay to the till or paybill, then enter the M-Pesa code.

Kila’s M-Pesa connection is not live yet, so no prompt went to your phone and nothing was paid. Pay to the school’s paybill, as below.

You cancelled the prompt on your phone

Kila shows:

Not paid

The prompt was failed. Nothing was charged; try again or pay to the paybill.

Nothing was taken. Tap Close, then Pay fees by M-Pesa to send a new prompt, or pay to the school’s paybill.

You would rather pay to the paybill

When you owe fees, Children shows the school’s paybill, such as “Pay by M-Pesa to paybill 4093217, using each child’s admission number as the account number.” Pay from your phone’s M-Pesa menu with those details.
