Your role

Pharmaceutical technologist

Your day as a pharmaceutical technologist. You go on duty at your branch, approve the medicines the tills ask for, dispense and keep the register, as a pharmacist does.

Steps differ for clinics and health services.

Kila describes the role: “As a pharmacist: approves scheduled medicines, keeps medication records and the register. Needs a PPB registration number.” In Kila you do what a pharmacist does, under your own name and registration number. At Dawa Bora Chemists, Joyce Chepkoech runs the Kitengela branch this way.

Kila opens your home page. Prescriptions today and the pharmacist on duty shows who is on duty at your branch, with their registration number: when it is you, “Joyce Chepkoech (PPB/PT/11942)”. Approvals and the Pharmacy section of the menu hold the rest of your work, as for a pharmacist.

For clinics and health services

At a clinic Kila opens Clinic › Dispensing for you. See Dispense a prescription.

  1. Sign on duty when you arrive, under Pharmacy › On duty, refills and owings. The branch then shows you on duty, with your role: “Joyce Chepkoech (PPB/PT/11942), Pharmaceutical technologist since …”. Sign on duty.
  2. Approve medicines the tills ask for, from Approvals or at the till: Approve medicines for the till.
  3. Dispense prescriptions, repeats and owings: Dispense a prescription and Dispense a repeat or an owing.
  4. Count the controlled drugs when it is time: Count controlled drugs.
  5. Sign off when you leave: Close the pharmacy for the day.

Needs a manager

  • A discount above your limit, and every refund. They go for approval as they do for a cashier: Cashier.
  • Sending expired stock back to the supplier. The inventory manager or the owner records it: Return expired and short-dated stock.

Do I approve the same medicines as a pharmacist? Yes. Kila treats the Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical technologist roles alike: both approve prescription and pharmacy-only medicines, with their PPB registration number recorded.

Why can I not sign on duty? Kila needs your PPB registration number recorded on you under Users: Sign on duty.

Someone else is on duty at my branch. Can I take over? Yes, from the same page: you go on duty and they are no longer on duty. See Sign on duty.
