Each morning, or before you plan tomorrow’s runs, Kila can tell you what needs making: what customers have ordered, what the same weekday usually sells, and the minimum you keep, less what is in stock and already being made. It rounds up to whole batches and allows for the scrap the recipe expects.

  1. Open Planning and materials

Planning and materials shows “What to make, and what to buy for it.” Under What to make, each product at each site has its In stock, Ordered, Forecast, Minimum and Being made, then what to Make, and any material it would be Short of.

Planning and materials at Shamba Fresh Foods: What to make at the Eldoret factory and the store and depot it supplies, with in stock, ordered, forecast, minimum, being made and the quantity to make (1), and Materials to buy below (2).Planning and materials at Shamba Fresh Foods: What to make at the Eldoret factory and the store and depot it supplies, with in stock, ordered, forecast, minimum, being made and the quantity to make (1), and Materials to buy below (2).
  2. Check Materials to buy

Below the plan, Materials to buy shows the materials still to buy for it, by supplier, after what is in stock and already on order. When nothing is missing it says Nothing to buy: “The materials in stock and on order cover the plan.”

  3. Tap Plan orders

Kila opens What to make on Production orders, with Plan next to each product.

Production, What to make: each product with in stock, minimum, ordered, planned and the quantity to make, and a Plan button on each row (3).Production, What to make: each product with in stock, minimum, ordered, planned and the quantity to make, and a Plan button on each row (3).
  4. Tap Plan on a product

Kila opens Plan a production order with the product, the site and the quantity to make filled in. Check the materials and plan it: see Plan a production order.

A site that makes for others plans for them too. At Shamba Fresh Foods the Eldoret factory plans “for each production site and the stores and depots it supplies”: its own stock and the Finished goods store’s and the Nairobi depot’s. The owner chooses this under What to make plans for in the production settings: Each site for itself, or The stores and depots it supplies too.

For farms

A farm’s own records. What to make works from recipes, so a farm without any has nothing listed here. Its fields and herds are followed as cost centres: see Follow a field or herd’s costs.

Steps differ for farms. Nothing here differs for your business, .

Kila shows:

Nothing to make now

Stock and planned orders cover open orders and every minimum. Set a minimum stock on a product to plan for it.

A product appears when it has orders waiting, a forecast or a minimum stock to cover. Give it a minimum, and it shows here whenever stock falls below it.

The Short column names the material and how much is missing, such as Foil lid 95mm, 500ml cup 795 pc. Check Materials to buy: what is already on order counts. You can still plan the order: see Plan a production order for what Kila does when materials are short.

Needs a manager

The forecast is the same weekday’s sales over the last weeks. The owner sets it under Forecast, Over the last and For the next in the production settings, or turns it off with No forecast.

Next: plan the runs: Plan a production order.
