Step by step
Import the client account statement
Bring the bank's statement for a client account into Kila: its lines are matched to the client cash book, and the receipts and payments show as on the statement.
Kila keeps a cash book for each client account. Importing the bank’s statement checks it against the bank: each line is matched to a receipt or a payment, and what does not match stands out. In the demo, Grace Mwikali (accounts) imports the client bank account’s statement with two deposits from Nuru Solar Kenya Ltd.
Open the statement page
Go to Fees and client money › Client money and tap Bank statement and reconciliation: “The client accounts checked against the bank every month.” At the top right, choose the account: Client bank account (1050) or Client M-Pesa paybill (1055). The page counts the lines Not matched, Matched, Exceptions and Set aside.
Get the statement from the bank
Download it as a CSV file from the bank or from Safaricom: “The CSV the bank or Safaricom gives (date, description, reference, money in and out, balance).”
Choose the CSV file
Under Import the statement, tap Choose the CSV file and pick it. Kila reads it and says, for example, 2 lines imported; 2 matched to the cash book. The import is listed with its number, the file, its dates, its lines, how many matched, and who imported it when.
Check the matched lines
Choose Matched in the list. Each line shows Matched, with the cash book entry and the client, and (automatic) where Kila matched it by itself. Undo takes a wrong match apart.
See it on the client's ledger
In Client ledgers, each matched receipt or payment now shows the statement’s date under On the statement instead of Not yet.
A line does not match
Link to this section: A line does not matchIt stays Not matched, with Deal with it. Choose Match to the cash book to pick the entry it belongs to, Exception for something wrong, such as money nobody can identify or a bank charge, or Set aside for a line that is not client money business.
You import the same statement again

Each month
Link to this section: Each monthThe Monthly reconciliation tab keeps each month’s reconciliation of the account. Client money shows when each account was Last reconciled, such as 2026-09 (signed off), and its Statement lines to match.
- Receive client money and Pay out of client money: the entries the statement is matched to.
