Work out commission

See what each stylist earned on paid visits and the lines behind each figure, and set the rates and rules Kila works commission out with.

Kila works out each stylist’s commission from the visits that were paid, at the rates you set. At Glow Studio everyone earns 15% on services and 10% on products, 40% on Barbering, and Purity Muthoni has her own 20% on services.

  1. Open Commissions

Go to Services › Commissions. It shows this month up to today; change From and To for another period. The totals at the top are Commission, Services, Products and Visits, and the table has a line for each stylist with their visits, services, products, package sessions and commission.

  2. Tap a stylist

Tap a line in the table to see how that figure was made.

  3. Check the lines behind the figure

Under the table, such as Behind Dennis Kiprop: “Each line, the amount it counts on and the rate in force when it was paid.” Each line gives the date, the visit, what was done, what it Counts on, the Rate and the Commission.

Commissions at Glow Studio from 1 to 30 October: KES 109,825 commission on KES 497,629 of services, KES 32,414 of products and 401 visits. Dennis Kiprop's line is marked 2, and Behind Dennis Kiprop, under the table, is marked 3.Commissions at Glow Studio from 1 to 30 October: KES 109,825 commission on KES 497,629 of services, KES 32,414 of products and 401 visits. Dennis Kiprop's line is marked 2, and Behind Dennis Kiprop, under the table, is marked 3.

Only the owner changes rates. The rates in force are listed under Rates, with whom each is for, what it is on, the rate and the day it started. Which one counts: “A stylist’s own rate wins over the standard rate; an item’s rate wins over its category’s, which wins over all services or products. A change applies from now on.”

  1. Find Rates

Scroll down below the table to Rates.

  2. Choose who it is for

Under For, choose a stylist, or Everyone (standard) for everyone without a rate of their own.

  3. Choose what it is on

Under On, choose All services, All products, A category or One service or product. For a category or one service, choose which next to it.

  4. Enter the rate

Enter the Percent. If you also pay a set amount each time, enter it under Plus a fixed amount each: Glow Studio pays 10% plus KES 2,000 on each bridal glam.

  5. Tap Save rate

Kila says Rate saved, such as “Commission for Kelvin Otieno on products is 12% from now on. Earlier visits keep the rate they were paid at.”

Rates at Glow Studio: everyone's 15% on services, 10% on products and 40% on Barbering, Tony Mwaura's 0% and Purity Muthoni's 20%. Below, a new rate: For Kelvin Otieno marked 2, On All products marked 3, Percent 12 marked 4, and Save rate marked 5.Rates at Glow Studio: everyone's 15% on services, 10% on products and 40% on Barbering, Tony Mwaura's 0% and Purity Muthoni's 20%. To stop a rate, tap End on its line. Kila says “Rate ended. Earlier visits keep it.”

Beside the rates, How commission is worked out holds five rules for the whole business. The owner changes them and taps Save rules.

Good to know

Who sees what: the owner sees everyone and changes the rates and rules. A salon manager sees everyone’s figures and the rates, without changing them. A stylist opens the same page and sees only their own figure and lines. This page works out what each stylist earned; paying it is not done here.

A visit is missing from a stylist’s figure

With Earned: When the visit is paid in full, a visit counts once it is paid in full. A visit not yet paid, or paid only in part, is not in the figure until it is.

You changed a rate and last month’s figure stayed the same

Link to this section: You changed a rate and last month’s figure stayed the same

That is how it should be: “A change applies from now on.” Visits paid before the change keep the rate they were paid at, and each line shows the rate it was paid at.

The front desk sees “Your sign-in is not linked to a staff member”

Link to this section: The front desk sees “Your sign-in is not linked to a staff member”

“Your sign-in is not linked to a staff member, so there is no commission to show. Ask the owner.” Someone at the desk who takes no clients has no commission. For a stylist who sees it, the owner opens Services › Staff and resources, taps the pencil on the stylist and chooses their sign-in under Signs in as: “Links the calendar to their own sign-in, so they see their bookings.”
