Step by step
Serve walk-ins
Add a client who has no booking to the queue beside the diary, then serve them when someone is free. A screen in the waiting area can show the queue, and walk-ins can sign themselves in at the door.
Barbers often work a queue rather than a book. Kila keeps walk-ins in a numbered queue for the day, beside the diary, with how long each has waited and about how long they have left. Serving one books them in from now with the person who is free.
Tap Walk-in
On the diary at the till, tap Walk-in. “They wait in the queue beside the diary until someone is free.”
Type their name
Keep Name only and type the name, and the phone if they give it. For a client who is already in Kila, tap Existing and find them.
Choose the service, if they say
Service is optional: leave Choose later if they will say at the chair.
Choose who they ask for, if anyone
Asks for is optional too: Whoever is free by default, or the barber they want, such as Kelvin Otieno.
Tap Add to queue
Kila says In the queue and their number, such as Allan Gitonga is number 12 in the queue, with 4 ahead.
Tap Serve when someone is free
Beside the diary, tap Walk-ins. Each person shows their number, how long they have waited and about how long they have left, such as About 15 min more or Someone is free now. Tap Serve on the next one.
Check the service and who does it, then tap Start now
“The visit starts now and shows as arrived.” Kila fills in the Service and With they asked for; change them if needed. Whoever is free first lets Kila choose. Kila says Being served: Allan Gitonga is with Kelvin Otieno (APT-000701). The visit is on the diary, and it is charged like any other.
The screen in the waiting area and the sign-in at the door
Link to this section: The screen in the waiting area and the sign-in at the door“A screen for the waiting area with the queue and expected waits, and a QR code at the door so walk-ins sign themselves in.” The owner switches each on: The waiting-area screen (“Numbers, first names and an initial, who is being served and the expected wait. Nothing else.”) and Sign in at the door by QR code (“Name and phone; one place in the queue per phone.”). Both are off until then.
- Open the screen opens the page for a TV or a spare tablet. It needs nobody signed in to Kila.
- Print the poster prints Walk-ins: sign in here with the QR code: “Scan with your phone camera. We will call your number.”
A walk-in who scans the code types their name and phone, and may choose the service (“Tell us at the chair”) and who they want: “Your phone number is only for calling you when it is your turn.” After Join the queue their phone says You are number 21, with 3 ahead of you. Take a seat: we will call your number. They show in the queue at the desk like anyone you add.
Someone leaves before their turn
Link to this section: Someone leaves before their turnTap Left on them in the queue. Kila says Taken off the queue, such as Martin Ndirangu taken off the queue., and the queue moves up.
Nobody can do the service now
Link to this section: Nobody can do the service nowKila does not start the visit: “Nobody is free for Skin fade now.” with the reason, then “Keep the client in the queue or choose a time.” Leave them in the queue, or book them a time with New booking.
Good to know
The queue is numbered afresh each day at each branch. A door sign-in is never linked to a client’s record: the desk matches the client when serving them.
