Step by step
Check your team's utilisation
Utilisation is the share of the hours each person is available that they spent on billable work. Kila shows it for this week, by person, and month by month.
A firm earns from billable hours. Utilisation compares each person’s billable hours with the hours they are available in the week, against the firm’s target: 75% at Mizani Associates. A low figure can mean too little client work, or time not recorded yet.
See this week on the Timesheets tab
Open Practice › Engagements (Projects in most firms) and tap Timesheets. Next to Hours this week and Billable, Team utilisation gives the share for the whole team, with the target and the hours available, such as Target 75% of 364 hours.
Read each person's week
Further down, Utilisation this week: “Billable hours against the hours each person is available. Target 75%.” Each person has a bar and their billable hours against their hours, such as 20.5 / 40 h · 51%. Their hours come from Hours a week on the Team tab.
Follow it month by month
Open Practice › Practice reports (“The partners’ numbers: lock-up, realisation, utilisation and profitability.”) and tap Utilisation: Billable hours against hours available, “Target 75%. The current month to today.” A share below the target shows in amber.
The home page has the same figure for the week so far, on the Team utilisation card.
Needs a manager
The owner sets the target and the usual week under Settings on Practice › Engagements: Utilisation target (%) and Usual hours a week. A person’s own Hours a week, on the Team tab, replaces the usual week for them.
- Record your time: utilisation is only as good as the time recorded.
- Put the team on a project: each person’s hours a week.
- Engagement manager: who watches it at an accounting firm.
Next: Run the month-end billing.
