Step by step
Sell meat by weight
Tap the cut, weigh it, and Kila works out the amount from the price per kg, with the container taken off and the cents rounded down.
A cut sold by weight has a price per kg. Tap it on the till and Kila asks for the weight, takes off the container and works out the amount, so nobody works out the price of 1.2 kilos by hand.
Before you start
Link to this section: Before you start- Your shift is open: Open a shift.
- The cut is set up as sold by weight, with its price per kg. See Selling by weight.
Tap the cut
Search for it, such as Beef on the bone, or tap it under Quick picks. A cut sold by weight opens Weigh instead of going straight into the cart.
Put the meat on the scale and enter the weight
Weigh Beef on the bone shows the price per kg. On a till with its scale connected, it says Put it on the scale; the weight comes from the scale. and the weight follows the scale. Otherwise it says Put it on the scale and type the weight it shows.: type the weight in kg, such as 1.235, or tap g and type grams, such as 1235.
Steps 2 to 4 on one screen. Check the container comes off
A cut sold in a tray or bag has its container’s weight set, and Take off the container (0.010 kg) is ticked: 1.235 kg on the scale is sold as 1.225 kg. Kila shows the weight times the price per kg: 1.225 kg × KES 750.00 makes KES 918.75.
Tap Add to cart
The cut goes into the cart at that weight.
Check the line in the cart
The line shows the weight and the price per kg: 1.225 kg × KES 750.00/kg. Cash and M-Pesa have no cents, so at Nyama Bora Butchery the cents come off as KES 0.75 off and the line is KES 918.00. Your business chooses this rounding in its till rules.
Take the payment
Tap Charge and take cash, M-Pesa or card as for any sale. The receipt prints the weight and the price per kg on the line, such as 1.225 kg x 750.00/kg, with the cents that came off as a discount.
Not available yet
eTIMS is in test mode. Receipts print ETIMS TEST MODE - NOT A VALID FISCAL RECEIPT: they are not valid fiscal receipts yet. See eTIMS.
The scale is not connected
Link to this section: The scale is not connectedThe till has a scale set up, but this computer has not been connected to it. Type the weight the scale shows and carry on. To have the weight come from the scale, someone who sets up the tills opens Administration › Printers and scales on this computer and presses Connect: see Set up a receipt printer, drawer or scale.
Kila says the weight is not more than the container
Link to this section: Kila says the weight is not more than the containerThe weight is lighter than the tray or bag, often because it was typed in grams while kg was chosen. Check kg or g and enter the weight again.
You weighed the wrong amount
Link to this section: You weighed the wrong amountTap the weight under the line, such as 1.225 kg. Weigh opens again with that weight: correct it and tap Save weight.
The customer asks for a lower price per kg
Link to this section: The customer asks for a lower price per kgThe price per kg is not yours to change. When you open the line, Kila says: “Priced by weight. Only someone allowed to override prices can change it.”
Needs a manager
A shop manager (Kila’s branch manager role) may change the price on a line, up to 15% below the list price. A cashier, a butcher or a till supervisor may not.
- Sell meat by amount: “nyama ya mia mbili”, KES 200 of meat.
