Step by step
Set up your till
Add each till's receipt printer, cash drawer and scale from the browser, with nothing to install, and approve the computer the till runs on. A barcode scanner needs no set-up.
The till works in a web browser, on a computer, tablet or Android till. “Nothing to install; without them the till prints through the print window as before.” Set up each till’s devices once, then connect them on the till’s own computer.
Printer and cash drawer

Open Administration › Printers and scales, or tap Open on Scanner, receipt printer and drawer in your set-up checklist.
Choose the till
In Till, choose the till the devices are for, such as Kahawa West · Till 2.
Tap Add, then Receipt printer, and choose how it is connected
“An ESC/POS thermal printer (58 or 80 mm) on a USB or serial cable or over Bluetooth, or any printer through the print window.” In Connected by, choose Serial or USB-serial cable, USB cable (WebUSB), Bluetooth or The print window.
Choose the paper
80 mm or 58 mm, as your printer’s roll.
Tap Add
Kila says Receipt printer set up: “The change is in the audit log. Connect it on the till’s computer.”
Add the cash drawer
Tap Add, then Cash drawer: “Usually plugged into the receipt printer, which opens it.” Leave Plugged into the receipt printer and Pin 2 (“Most drawers use pin 2.”) and tap Add. Kila says Cash drawer set up.
Connect them on the till's computer
On the computer the till runs on, open this page and tap Connect on the printer: the browser asks you to choose it. Then tap Test print. Use Chrome or Edge on a computer; Chrome on Android reaches Bluetooth printers.
Good to know
These pages were made on a test copy of Kila with no printer attached, so they stop at Connect. Until a printer is connected, the till prints through the browser’s print window.
Scanner and scale
Link to this section: Scanner and scale- Barcode scanner: “Barcode scanners work as a keyboard: plug one in and scan into the till’s search. Scale labels with the weight or price in the barcode are read too. Nothing to set up.”
- Scale: for goods sold by weight, tap Add, then Weighing scale, and connect it the same way.
The Settings on the same page apply to every till: whether to Print the receipt as soon as a sale is complete, how many copies, the eTIMS QR code and a logo, and Open the drawer after a sale paid by cash or other ways.
Approve the till’s computer
Link to this section: Approve the till’s computerThe first time someone sells on a new computer, the till asks: “This device is not registered for selling. Ask an owner or manager to approve it from the till. Until then the till sells only with a connection.”
Name the device
In Name this device, type a name everyone will know, such as Counter computer. Till can stay on Any till at this branch.
Tap Approve this device
Kila says Counter computer approved: “This device can sell here now.” A cashier taps Ask for approval instead, for an owner or manager to approve in Approvals.
Administration › Till devices lists the approved devices. “Approved devices are switched off” for a new business: “Any signed-in device can sell with a connection. Offline selling is only for approved devices.”
- Make your first sale: the till in use.
- Set your business details, opening hours and tills: adding a till.
- Set up a receipt printer, drawer or scale: each till’s devices in full.
- Approve a till device: for a branch or one till, and selling without a connection.
