Step by step
Book a parcel
At the counter, find the sender and the receiver, weigh the parcel, choose the service and take the payment. Kila prices it from your rate card and gives it a tracking number.
A parcel is a booking with a tracking number, a sender, a receiver and its pieces. Kila prices it from your rate card by its weight, takes the payment or puts it on the sender’s account, and gives the receiver a delivery code.
Tap New parcel
Open Sell › Bookings and dispatch and tap New parcel.
Find the sender
Under Sender, type the sender’s name or phone in From the address book and choose them. Kila fills in their Name, Phone and Town. For someone new, type their details: with Save new people to the address book ticked, Kila keeps them for next time.
A business that sends on account, such as an online shop, goes under Account (merchant or business customer) instead: “An account customer is billed on account; cash on delivery is collected for them.”
Find the receiver
Do the same under Receiver, and check the Town and Address and directions: the rider goes by them. The receiver’s Phone “Gets the tracking SMS (test mode).” When another depot delivers it, choose that depot as Delivering depot.
Add each piece
For each box or bag, type What it is, its weight in kg and its size in L cm, W cm and H cm. Kila works out the weight by volume, such as 1.44 kg by volume: “Volumetric weight = L × W × H ÷ 5000; the larger weight is charged.” Tap Add a piece for the next one.
Choose the service
Each service level shows its price from your rate card, such as Next day · KES 650 or Express (4 hours, in town) · KES 1,300. Choose one. Below, Kila shows how it priced the parcel: Mombasa town → Nairobi · 2 kg actual, 1.44 kg by volume, the rate card’s line and the Total.
Take the payment
Choose Paid by: Cash, M-Pesa, Card or Bank transfer. For M-Pesa, type the M-Pesa code from the sender’s message. For an account customer, leave it empty and the charge goes on their account.
Tap Book and print
Kila books the parcel, bills it and sends the receiver the delivery code:
Print the waybill and labels
The parcel opens. Tap Waybill to print the sender’s copy, with the delivery code and the link to track the parcel, and Labels to print a label for each piece. Both carry the tracking number as a barcode.
Not available yet
SMS is in test mode: “messages are logged but not delivered until an SMS provider is connected; email is sent.” The receiver does not get the delivery code by SMS yet, so read it to them, or to the sender to pass on. The parcel’s page shows the code to the office, with Send again for later.
Book and print stays grey

Cash on delivery without an account
Link to this section: Cash on delivery without an accountType an amount in Cash on delivery and Kila asks: “Choose the merchant’s account above.” Cash on delivery is collected for an account customer, the merchant who sold the goods, so choose their account under Sender. The fee is shown under the box: “Fee 2% (at least KES 50).”
The sender asks for a different price
