Step by step
Record your time
Start the timer on My day and stop it when you finish, log hours by hand, or type the whole week into the grid. Each entry is unbilled until it is invoiced.
Steps differ for accounting firms.
Your time is what the firm bills. Record it as you work, on the project it was for: Kila puts a value on each entry at your rate, adds it to the project’s budget used, and keeps it Unbilled until it is invoiced.
There are three ways, and they all record the same time: the timer, Log time, and the week’s grid.
Start the timer on My day
My day is the first screen for associates and bookkeepers. Its timer card says “Start the timer on what you are working on. Stopping it logs the time.” Tap one of your recent projects, or Another engagement to choose one and say what you are doing. Kila says, for example, “Timer started on Payroll bureau (85 employees).”
Tap Stop and log when you finish
While it runs, the card shows Timer running, the project and the time so far. Tap Stop and log: Kila logs the time, rounded up to 6 minutes, and says so: “0.1 h logged on Payroll bureau (85 employees) at KES 3,500.00 an hour.” To move to other work, tap Switch and choose it: Kila logs what has run so far and starts the timer again on the other project.
Or log hours by hand
For time you did not run the timer on, tap Log time. Choose the project, the Day and the Hours (1.5 is an hour and a half), say What was done, then tap Log time. Billable to the client is ticked: “Left as it is, time on a fixed-fee engagement is not billable.”
Or type the week into the grid
Open Practice › Time: “Your week by engagement and day. Type the hours; the week saves together.” Each row is a project, each column a day. Tap Add a row for a project you have not logged this week, or Copy last week’s rows. Type the hours under the day, as 1.5, 1:30 or 90m.
Tap Save the week
The button counts your changes, such as Save the week (1). Kila says: “The week is saved.”
On My day, the Hours card compares today and this week with your target: “Days short of time this week are marked. Fill them in while you remember the work.”

Retainers and fixed fees. Time on a monthly retainer counts against the hours it includes. In the grid, a row on a retainer or a fixed fee can be Out of scope: work the agreed fee does not cover, billed at the team’s rates.

Needs a manager
A manager can log time for someone else: their Log time has a Who list. Managers also see the whole team’s week on Practice › Time, with Team week.
