Step by step
Record your time
Record the time you spend on a matter, in the firm's units and with a narrative the client will understand on the fee note.
Time recorded on a matter is what the firm bills from, so Kila asks for it in the firm’s units and with a narrative: “Say what was done so the client understands the fee note.” My time shows your week day by day, with what is billable.
Open My time
Go to My work › Time. My time shows your hours today, the week by day, any timer running, your Timesheet and The firm’s standard, such as “Units of 6 minutes, rounded up, at least 1.” Tap Record time (or Add on a day).
Choose the matter
Type part of the matter’s number or name under Matter and choose it from the list.
Give the hours
Fill in the Date and the Hours, such as 0.5. Kila shows them in the firm’s units, such as 5 units: 0.5 h.
Say what was done
Choose the Activity, and Charged as if it differs from what the matter and activity say. Write the Narrative: who, which document or hearing, and why, as in “Perusal of the defendant’s list of documents and the freight invoices it relies on.”
Tap Record
Kila says what it recorded, such as 0.5 h (5 units) recorded on Jamii Sacco v Collins Otieno Were (KES 410,000), not billable., and the entry shows under the day.
Tip
For work you are doing now, use the timer instead: Start a timer on the matter (“One timer at a time; stop it to record the time.”). While it runs, My time shows Timer running with the hours and minutes. Tap Stop and record: “Its time is recorded in the firm’s units.”
Record stays grey
Link to this section: Record stays greyThe narrative does not meet the firm’s standard yet. Kila says why under the narrative:
A single word such as “Drafting” is not enough. Add who, which document or hearing, and why.
An entry needs putting right before the week goes in
Link to this section: An entry needs putting right before the week goes inThe Timesheet says, for example, 1 to put right first, with the day and what is wrong. Tap Change (the pencil) on the entry, fix it, then Submit the week: “Submitted each week to a partner, who approves it or sends it back.”
- Issue a fee note: how recorded time becomes a fee note.
- Advocate and Pupil: whose time this is.
Next: at the end of the week, tap Submit the week for your partner to approve.
