Your role

Farm manager

You run the farm. Keep each field's seasons and inputs, each herd's animals and milk, and see what every field and herd has cost.

Kila describes the farm manager as running “the branch: fields and seasons, herds and animals, treatments and withdrawal periods, milk, inputs and harvests.”

Kila opens Fields, herds and milk on Fields and seasons: “Seasons, inputs and harvests by field; animals by tag with their treatments and withdrawal periods; milk by milking.” Each season shows its field, crop and area, its inputs, what was harvested, the yield and when it may be harvested. Field, herd or house and Season add new ones.

  1. Check the morning’s milk. The home page’s Farm today: milk, withdrawals and seasons shows the litres so far, the milk withheld and the cows in their withdrawal periods. The milk is recorded cow by cow: Record a milking.
  2. Record what went into the fields and herds. Inputs to a season, such as a spray or a day’s weeding, and inputs to a herd, such as feed or the vet: Follow a field or herd’s costs.
  3. Keep the animals. On Animals, each animal by its tag, with its herd and any withdrawal period; Register an animal adds one.
  4. See what each costs. Cost centres on Production orders shows each field and herd’s inputs, production and sales.
  • Record fields, seasons and their inputs, the animals and the milk.
  • Plan, issue and close production orders, and record inputs to cost centres.
  • See production costs and reports.

Needs a manager

  • The production settings, such as the kinds of cost centre and whether inputs go into the next harvest, are the owner’s.
  • Recipes. Adding a recipe for a product is for the owner or someone who keeps recipes.

Why is a cow’s milk withheld? She is in her milk withdrawal period after a treatment. The Animals tab shows Milk to the day it ends.

Where do I record the vet’s visit? As an input to the herd, a cost with no stock item: see Follow a field or herd’s costs.

Why does a season say harvest from a date? It was sprayed, and the spray’s pre-harvest interval runs to that day.
