Step by step
Add a customer
Give a customer a record of their own, so what they buy, what they owe and their points are kept together.
A customer record keeps one customer’s purchases, what they owe, any deposit they paid ahead and their loyalty points in one place. Add one for a customer who buys often, buys on account or collects points. A walk-in cash sale does not need one.
Open Customers and tap New customer
Go to Customers › All customers: “Profiles, accounts, deposits and history in one place.” Tap New customer at the top.
Choose Individual or Business
For a company, tap Business. The name field becomes Business name, and the KRA PIN is “Needed on tax invoices for businesses.”
Type the name and how to reach them
Type the name. The phone is “Used for M-Pesa prompts and reminders.” Email, KRA PIN and the national ID number are optional: Kila asks you to “Collect only what you need to serve this customer.” The national ID is “Only for credit and hire purchase.”
Choose a category
Pick the Category, such as Retail, Contractor, Wholesale or VIP. The customer list can show one category at a time. If your business has price lists, Price list gives this customer their own prices: it “Overrides list prices for this customer.”
Ask about offers
Tick Customer agrees to receive offers by SMS and email only if the customer says yes: “Ask the customer. The time of their answer is recorded.”
Tap Add customer
Kila says Customer added, with the name and the customer’s new number, and opens their page. The number starts with C-, and you can search for it later.
Good to know
The Credit account part of the form sets a credit limit and payment terms. Leave the limit at 0 for a customer who pays at the time: their page then says “No credit limit. Sales are paid at the time.” To let them buy on account, see Set a credit limit and payment terms.
The phone number belongs to another customer

Add customer stays grey
Link to this section: Add customer stays greyType the name first. Kila needs at least two letters.
- Find a customer and see their history: open the record you just made.
- Add a customer to a sale: find or add a customer from the till.
- Set a credit limit and payment terms: let the customer buy on account.
- Move to Kila from another system or a daftari: customers who owed you before you started on Kila.
Next: put the customer on their next sale at the till, so it shows in their history.
