Your role
Sales rep
Your day on the road with a van and a beat, visiting the shops on your phone, selling from the van, taking orders for delivery, and bringing back returns and empties.
As a sales rep you visit the shops on your beat, most days from a van loaded with stock. Kila describes the role as: “Visits the customers on their beat: takes orders, sells from the van, collects, checks shelves, takes back returns and empties, and adds new outlets for approval. No prices, credit limits or other reps’ routes.” At Mombasa Road Distributors, Kevin Otieno covers Syokimau and Embakasi in Van 1.

Needs a manager
- A shop on hold. Kila sells to it for cash and M-Pesa only: On account is not offered.
- A difference on the van. If the stock counted back in is short, someone other than you decides it in Approvals: at Mombasa Road the area supervisor, the sales manager or the general manager.
- Crediting a return. You take the goods; the credit controller credits the shop once they are checked at the depot.
Common questions
Link to this section: Common questionsWhy is On account missing for this shop? The shop is on hold, and the shop says why:
The van card says the device is not registered. Can I still sell? Yes, with a connection: “This device is not registered for selling. Ask an owner or manager to approve it from the till. Until then the till sells only with a connection.”
Who counts my van back in? At Mombasa Road the store counts it, blind: they count what is on the van and Kila compares it once it is sent. See Close a van day.

- Area supervisor: who closes your van’s day.
