Your role

Production supervisor

You run the shift at your site. Start the planned runs, close them with what was made and scrapped, keep the shift log, and hand over to the next shift.

Kila describes the production supervisor as running “production orders at their branch: plans, issues materials, records output, scrap and downtime on the shift log, completes checks and closes orders. No costs or recipes.”

Kila opens Today at the site: the site, the day and the shift, the shift’s figures, and each line with its runs. A planned run has Issue and start; a run in production has Close. Use Shift to look at the day or the night shift.

  1. Start the planned runs. Tap Issue and start on a run whose materials are reserved, or issue them from the order: Issue materials to a production order.
  2. Watch the lines. Operators count the output, the scrap and the stops on the line screen; you see them on Today and in Shift log and handovers.
  3. Close each run. Tap Close and record the good units and the scrap with its reasons: Record output and close a production order.
  4. Hand over. Before the shift ends, tap Handover. Kila opens Hand over the shift with “What the shift’s own records say, with your notes for the next supervisor.”: what was made and scrapped, the stops, what is still running, what is held for QC and the breakdowns open. Add What happened, Still open and Priorities for the next shift, then tap Write the handover. Kila says, for example, Handover for the Night shift written., and Today shows who wrote it and when. The next supervisor acknowledges it.

  • Plan runs, issue their materials and close them with the output and scrap.
  • Record output, scrap and downtime on the shift log, and complete checks and checklists.
  • Write the shift’s handover.

Needs a manager

  • Costs. You see each batch’s number, output and scrap, not what it cost: costs are for the plant manager and the owner.
  • Recipes. Changing a recipe is for the plant manager or QA.

Kila filled in the good units for me. Is that right? It takes what the shift log recorded for the run, or what the recipe expects. Change it to what was really made before you tap Close order.

Can I cancel a run that has started? No: once its materials are issued, record what was made and close it, with nothing made if it all went to waste.

Why does a closed batch say held? At a food business each batch waits for QA to release it: see QA officer.
