Steps differ for General businesses.

Payroll pays your staff each month from what Kila already knows: their contracts, attendance, commission and advances. It works out PAYE, SHIF, NSSF and the Housing Levy from dated rate tables, a second person approves the run, staff get their payslips, and the payroll journal goes to the books. A business that uses a payroll provider can send the figures there instead.

Switch it on

Payroll is optional for every kind of business. On the Business, Growth and Enterprise plans, the owner switches it on under Administration › Business profile. It needs Staff and attendance, which comes with it: Kila says “Staff and attendance came with it, because it needs them.”

For General businesses

A General business switches it on in one step: on Business profile, under What your business does, switch on Staff and payroll, which also switches on Staff and attendance. See Add what your business does.

Good to know

Kila says so at the top of Payroll: Rates not yet checked by a payroll professional. The PAYE bands and reliefs, SHIF, NSSF tiers, the Affordable Housing Levy and the return layouts are Kila’s starting values: “Check each run’s figures before approving it.”
