Step by step
Put goods on layaway
Make a layaway agreement under Credit › Agreements. The customer pays a deposit and instalments, and the goods stay in the store until they are paid in full.
Layaway lets a customer pay for goods over a few weeks before taking them home. Kila sets the goods aside at your branch, keeps the deposit on the customer‘s account, and tracks each instalment until the goods are paid for.
Open Credit › Agreements and tap New agreement
Kila walks through five steps: Type, Customer, Goods, Terms and Checks.
Choose Layaway, then tap Continue
“The goods are reserved and stay in the branch until the customer has paid in full.”
Choose the customer and record their consent
Find the customer, choose How the customer consented, and tick The customer has seen the full cost of credit and agrees to the checks and the terms once they have.
Add the goods
Search the goods by name or code and tap Add; set the quantity. The Summary on the right adds up the cash price.
Set the deposit and the instalments
The Deposit says the least it can be, such as “At least 10% (KES 405.00).” Choose when the first instalment is due, Week or Month, and the Number of instalments. Kila shows the Cost of credit, disclosed to the customer and every instalment: a layaway has “No interest.”
Tap Continue, then Create agreement
Kila runs the business’s checks. When they pass, it says Within your limit: “It will be approved as you submit it. Then take the deposit, record acceptance and hand over.” Kila says Agreement saved and opens the agreement, such as LAY-000003.
Take the deposit, then start the layaway
Under Before handover, tap Take deposit (8): “Held on the customer’s account until handover.” Choose how it is paid and tap Record deposit. Then tap Generate contract, print it, and Record acceptance: In person, by SMS code or a Signed copy. Last, tap Start the layaway. “Goods stay in the branch until paid in full.” SMS is in test mode, so an SMS code stays in Kila’s message log and does not reach the customer‘s phone: record acceptance In person or with a Signed copy.
Record each instalment
The agreement shows the Balance and the next instalment. When the customer pays, tap Record payment (9): “Applied to the oldest instalment first. Anything above the balance is held as credit.”
The deposit is too small
Link to this section: The deposit is too smallThe check Deposit at least 10% says by how much, such as “Deposit is 7.4% of the cash price (KES 300.00 of KES 4,050.00).” Tap Back and raise the Deposit. The suggested deposit comes from the first goods you add: if you add more afterwards, check it again.
Needs a manager
Making a credit agreement needs a role that creates them: an owner, a general manager or a credit officer. Recording a customer‘s payment needs less: cashiers and branch managers can record collections.
- Take an order: goods kept for a customer who pays the balance in one go when they collect.
- Add a customer to a sale: the customer record a layaway belongs to.
Next: follow up on instalments under Credit › Collections.
