A discount goes on one line of the sale. Each role has a limit, such as 5% of the line for a cashier. Within your limit the discount is yours to give; above it, someone whose limit covers it approves it before you charge.

  1. Tap the line's name in the cart

The line opens with its Quantity, Unit price, Discount and Line total.

  2. Type the discount

Choose % or KES, then type the discount. Under it Kila shows your limit: Your limit is 5% of the line. The line total changes as you type.

  3. Tap Save line

The discount goes on the line.

  4. Check the cart, then charge

The line shows what comes off, such as KES 11.75 off, the totals show Discounts, and Charge shows the new total.

Above your limit

That is more than 5% off. Save the line, then ask for approval from the cart: someone with a higher limit approves it.
  1. Tap Save line. The cart says Above your discount limit, with the line, such as “Safi bar soap 1kg at KES 211.50: 10.0% off, your limit is 5%.” Charge stays grey.
  2. Tap Ask for approval (1). Kila says “Sent for approval. Someone whose limit covers it approves it in Approvals or from their phone. This till updates on its own.” The cart shows Waiting for approval…. Tell the customer a manager is approving it.
  3. The approver decides. The request is in their Approvals, under Waiting for a decision, as Discount above the limit, with Reject and Approve (2). A note is optional when approving.
  4. Charge. Your till changes by itself to Discount approved by the approver’s name, and Charge works again.

Needs a manager

Kila’s standard limits are 5% of the line for a cashier and 15% for a till supervisor or a branch manager; an owner’s covers any discount. A request goes to the people whose limit covers it. The cashier who asked never approves their own.

Kila shows:

Discount not approved

Change the discount, or ask again.

The cart says “It was not approved. Change it, or ask again.” Open the line and give a discount within your limit, or take it off, then charge.

The approval covers the line as it was: the same product, a price no lower and a quantity no higher. Add one more and the cart says “The cart changed after it was approved. Ask again.” Put the quantity back, or tap Ask for approval again.

Next: tap Charge and take the payment.
