Fix prices below the minimum

Margin watch lists every price that earns less than its minimum margin, with the price that fixes it. Update one or many at once, and Kila records each change.

When a supplier puts its prices up, some of your prices stop earning their minimum margin. Margin watch lists them, each with the price that brings it back. Updating a price changes it at once, and Kila records the change with a number, a PDF and shelf labels to print.

The owner has set minimum margins: see Set minimum margins.

  1. Open Products › Margins

Once there are minimums, it opens on Margin watch. Prices below minimum counts them, and Suggested raises, added up is the “Suggested less current price, one of each”.

Steps 2 to 5 on one screen.
Margin watch at Baraka Wines and Spirits for Whisky (1), rounded up to 10 (2): Kingsgate Blended Whisky 750ml sells at KES 1,950.00 with a 14.3% margin against a 15% minimum, and its new price is KES 1,970 (3) with Update beside it (4).Margin watch at Baraka Wines and Spirits for Whisky (1), rounded up to 10 (2): Kingsgate Blended Whisky 750ml sells at KES 1,950.00 with a 14.3% margin against a 15% minimum, and its new price is KES 1,970 (3) with Update beside it (4).
  2. Choose a branch or a category

Use Branch and Category to work through a part of the list, such as Whisky.

  3. Choose how to round

Under Round suggestions up to, choose Shilling, 5, 10 or 50. Kila rounds every suggested price up to it.

  4. Check the new price

“Suggested prices are the lowest whole-shilling price, VAT included, that brings every branch on that price back to its minimum, using each branch’s average cost.” Type another price if you prefer one: New margin shows what it earns.

  5. Tap Update

To change several at once, tick them and tap Update with the number you ticked, such as Update 2 selected. Kila says Price updated, with the record’s number, such as “Recorded as PC-000003”, and “Download the PDF for your file and the shelf labels.” The new price is the product’s price from that moment.

  6. Download the PDF

The green notice at the top has Download PDF: “The PDF lists each change with the old and new price and the margin before and after. It stays under Changes made.”

The notice Price updated with the record's number (5), and Download PDF and Undo; Margin watch now lists 3 whisky prices below the minimum. The notice Price updated with the record's number (5), and Download PDF and Undo; Margin watch now lists 3 whisky prices below the minimum.

Print the shelf labels for the new prices before the shelves show the old ones: see Print shelf labels.

The price you typed is lower than the one that meets the minimum, so Kila marks it Still below. A price with cents is marked Whole shillings: Margin watch sets whole-shilling prices only.

Type it in the product’s Minimum column and the new price follows it. If you are not the owner, it prices this change only: For this price only (was 15%). An owner can tick Keep for this product to make it the product’s own minimum.

Open the Changes made tab and tap Undo on the record. Kila asks Why are you undoing these changes?: type the reason and tap Undo changes. Kila says the record is undone: “The price is back to what it was. Margin watch shows any below the minimum again.”

Kila asks whether to undo the record, with the reason typed and Undo changes marked 1.Kila asks whether to undo the record, with the reason typed and Undo changes marked 1.

Good to know

“Only the latest price changes can be undone. Once undone, the one before it becomes the latest. A change cannot be undone if one of its prices has been changed again since.”

Next: Print shelf labels for the new prices.
