Step by step

Switch on two-step verification

Ask for a code from your phone as well as your password when you sign in. Kila recommends it for owners and administrators, and shows who has it on.

Who can do it
Owner, Administrator, General manager, Branch manager and Accountant
Time
3 minutes

With two-step verification on, signing in needs your password and a six-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone, so a password on its own is not enough to get in. Each person switches it on for their own account. Kila says it is “Required for platform staff and recommended for owners and administrators.”

Install an authenticator app on your phone: Kila names Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and 1Password.

  1. Open Profile and security

Tap your name at the top of the screen and choose Profile and security.

  2. Tap Set up two-step verification

It is in the Two-step verification card, which says Off for now.

  3. Add the setup key to your authenticator app

Kila shows a Setup key: “Add this key to Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or 1Password, then enter the six-digit code it shows.” In the app, add an account and type the key.

Steps 3 to 5 on one screen. Your key is your own: never share it.

  4. Type the code the app shows

Type the six digits into Code from your app. The app shows a new code every 30 seconds; use the newest.

  5. Tap Switch on

Kila says Two-step verification is on, and the card says “Your account asks for a code at sign-in.” Kila also emails you about the change.

  6. Sign in with your code from now on

After your password, Kila asks Confirm it’s you: “Enter the six-digit code from your authenticator app.” Type the code from the app and tap Verify and continue.

On Users and roles, the Two-step verification card counts who has it: such as “1 of 1 active users have it switched on. Owners and administrators should.” The Two-step column says On or Off for each person, and a person’s profile says it under Two-step verification. Nobody can switch it on for someone else: ask them to follow the steps above.

The audit log’s Security tab lists each person’s sign-ins and two-step changes: see Find an action in the audit log.

Kila shows:

That did not go through

That code did not match. Try the newest code.

At sign-in Kila says “That code did not match. Use the latest code from your authenticator app.” Wait for the app’s next code and type it straight away.

Switch two-step verification off, then set it up again on the new phone. Under Profile and security, type your password in Confirm with your password to switch it off and tap Switch off. Kila says Two-step verification is off.

Good to know

Kila emails you each time two-step verification is switched on or off for your account. If it was switched off and it was not you, the email says to change your password straight away and sign out every other device from Profile and security, then tell your business administrator.
