Step by step
Record what happened at a court date
After each court date, record who attended, the outcome, the orders, the next date, the follow-ups, the deadlines and the client update. The date closes only when all eight are in.
The court diary keeps every court date for every advocate. “A court date closes only with its full record”: once the date has passed, someone records what happened, usually the court clerk from the advocate’s notes, so the next date, the follow-ups and the deadlines are never left in someone’s head.
Find the date under Records to complete
Open My work › Court diary. Records to complete lists “Court dates gone by without their record: attendance, outcome, orders, the next date, follow-ups, deadlines and the client update.” Tap Complete the record on the date.
Record the attendance
Under Record what happened (“All eight are needed before this court date closes.”), tap Attended or Not attended. Kila fills in the advocate who was down to attend; tap Someone else for the client or a witness, or fill in Holding brief for the firm.
Record the outcome
Choose What happened, such as Mention taken, Adjourned or Ruling delivered, and say it In a few words. Change Case status after it when the case moves on.
Add the orders or directions
Tap An order or direction for each one the court gave and type it. If there were none, tick The court made no orders.
Give the next court event
Tap A next date and fill in the Date, Time and Who attends, or choose To take at the registry or Concluded in this court. The next date goes into the diary.
Add follow-ups and deadlines
Tap A follow-up for each thing someone must do, with whose job it is, or tick Nothing to follow up. Tap A deadline for each one that runs from the date, or tick No deadline runs from this date. “A date the court gave stands; one worked out from a period waits for a second person to verify it in the deadline centre.”
Say whether the client needs an update
Tap Send an update and write it (“Drafted for the team; sent as the firm’s communication rules say.”), or No update needed and say Why not.
Tap Complete and close
The button works once all eight are recorded. Kila says Recorded: the date is closed and the next date is in the diary.
Something cannot be recorded yet
Link to this section: Something cannot be recorded yetKila lists what is left, such as “Still missing: attendance, the outcome, …”. Save as a draft keeps what you have. If a part cannot be recorded at all, write the reason under To ask a partner for an exception, the reason and tap Ask for an exception: a partner decides, and the diary shows Exception asked on the date until they do.
Needs a manager
A partner can close a date on an exception directly; anyone else asks one. The partner decides it in Approvals.
The date is not in the diary
Link to this section: The date is not in the diaryTap Add to the diary at the top of the court diary, choose the matter and fill in the date, then record it.
- Verify a deadline: what happens to a deadline worked out from a period.
- Court clerk: the clerk’s day in the diary.
Next: the advocate sees the next date on My dashboard, under Court this week.
