Step by step

Change quantities and sell by weight

Tap plus or minus, or type the quantity. A product sold by weight asks for the weight, or the amount the customer wants, and a scale label scans with its weight.

Each tap on a product adds one. For more, change the quantity in the cart. Fruit, vegetables and meat sold by the kilo are weighed instead: Kila asks for the weight, or for the amount the customer wants to spend.

  1. Change the quantity in the cart

Tap + or − on the line, or tap the number and type the quantity. The line’s total changes as you go. Tapping the line’s name opens it, with the same Quantity, the price and a discount.

  2. For a product sold by weight, type the weight

Tap the product. Kila opens Weigh Tomatoes: “KES 120.00 per kg. Put it on the scale and type the weight it shows.” Type the weight in kg, or tap g for grams. Kila takes the container off by itself (Take off the container (0.005 kg)) and shows the weight and the amount: 1.245 kg × KES 120.00 is KES 149.40.

Weigh Tomatoes: 1.25 typed as the weight on the scale (2), the container of 0.005 kg taken off, 1.245 kg × KES 120.00 coming to KES 149.40, and Add to cart (3).Weigh Tomatoes: 1.25 typed as the weight on the scale (2), the container of 0.005 kg taken off, 1.245 kg × KES 120.00 coming to KES 149.40, and Add to cart (3).
  3. Tap Add to cart

The line shows the weight and the price per kg, such as 1.245 kg × KES 120.00/kg. To weigh it again, tap the weight on the line.

  4. Or sell an amount: tap By amount

When the customer asks for meat for KES 200 rather than a weight, tap By amount.

  5. Type the amount the customer asks for

Kila says how much to cut: Cut 0.286 kg (plus the 0.010 kg container). Put it on the scale. If you type the weight on the scale too, Kila checks it comes to the amount.

Weigh Beef on the bone, By amount (4): KES 200 typed as the amount the customer asks for (5), Kila says cut 0.286 kg plus the 0.010 kg container, and Add for KES 200.00 (6).Weigh Beef on the bone, By amount (4): KES 200 typed as the amount the customer asks for (5), Kila says cut 0.286 kg plus the 0.010 kg container, and Add for KES 200.00 (6).
  6. Tap Add for KES 200.00

The line comes to exactly KES 200.00. The few cents over, from rounding the weight, show on the line as a discount, such as KES 0.20 off.

  7. Or scan the label from the scale

A label printed by your counter’s scale scans like a barcode. It carries the product’s code on the scale (its PLU) and the weight, so the line goes in already weighed, such as 0.850 kg × KES 140.00/kg of red onions.

The cart after scanning a scale label: Red onions, 0.850 kg × KES 140.00/kg, KES 119.00 (7), under the tomatoes and the beef. The cart after scanning a scale label: Red onions, 0.850 kg × KES 140.00/kg, KES 119.00 (7), under the tomatoes and the beef.
Kila shows:
The weight is not more than the container.

The weight typed is the container’s, or less. Put the goods on the scale and type the weight again. If the goods came without a container, untick Take off the container.

Kila shows:
Too much on the scale: take a little off, or add it at 0.286 kg for KES 200.00.

Take a little off until Kila stops showing the message, or tap Add for KES 200.00 to sell the amount at the weight Kila worked out. When there is too little, Kila says Not enough on the scale: add a little.

Kila shows:

No product has PLU 199

Set the PLU on the product to the number the scale uses.

The scale and Kila use different codes for the product. Weigh it by hand for now (tap the product and type the weight), and tell whoever looks after products: each product sold by weight has its Scale PLU code in Kila.

Good to know

A product sold by weight is priced per kg in Kila. Whether it is, and its PLU and container weight, are set on the product by whoever looks after products.

Next: tap Charge to take the payment.
