Read production results

See what each product made over a period, its yield and scrap, what a unit cost against the standard, and where the difference came from.

Every closed order adds to the picture: how much was made against the plan, how much was lost and why, and what each unit really cost. Results puts them together by product for any period, and Cost variances shows where the money went.

  1. Open Results and choose the period

On Production orders, open the Results tab. It starts on the last 30 days: change From and To for another period.

Results at Shamba Fresh Foods for 30 days (1): each product with its orders, planned, made, scrapped, yield, cost a unit and standard. Mala 1L is marked 2: its yield in orange, below what its recipe expects, and its cost a unit flagged above its standard. Results at Shamba Fresh Foods for 30 days (1): each product with its orders, planned, made, scrapped, yield, cost a unit and standard. Mala 1L is marked 2: its yield in orange, below what its recipe expects, and its cost a unit flagged above its standard.
  2. Read Output, yield and cost

“Orders closed in the period, against the recipe’s yield and standard cost.” For each product: Orders, Planned, Made, Scrapped, the Yield, the Cost a unit and the Standard with the difference. A yield below what the recipe expects shows in orange, and so does a difference above your business’s flag, such as 5%.

  3. See why things were scrapped

Scrap by reason adds up what was scrapped under each of your reasons. Material usage shows each material “used against what the recipes use for the good output”: a plus means more was used than the good output needed.

Further down Results: Scrap by reason, with machine fault, underweight or overfilled, damaged packaging and spoiled or contaminated, and Material usage, raw milk and each other material against the recipes (3).Further down Results: Scrap by reason, with machine fault, underweight or overfilled, damaged packaging and spoiled or contaminated, and Material usage, raw milk and each other material against the recipes (3).
  4. Open Cost variances

Make › Cost variances shows the period’s Standard against the Actual: “positive costs more than the standard.” Where the variance came from splits the difference into Material price, Material usage, Labour, Overheads, Yield, Farm inputs and Other. Below, By product and By order, with the orders “Flagged above 5% over standard.”

Cost variances for the same 30 days: standard, actual and the variance, labour and overheads absorbed against spent, and where the variance came from (4), most of it from yield.Cost variances for the same 30 days: standard, actual and the variance, labour and overheads absorbed against spent, and where the variance came from (4), most of it from yield.

Costs are for people who may see production costs, such as the plant manager and the owner. A production supervisor sees the same output, yield and scrap, with a dash in place of each cost.

Open it on the Done column of Production orders: each order shows its yield, its scrap with the reasons, and its materials by batch against the recipe. A run with a lot of scrap for one reason, such as a machine fault, shows up here.

Tip

The Daily report under Make gives one day at a site on a single printable page: what was made, the yield and scrap, the intake, the stops, and the cost of the runs closed for those who see costs.

Next: if a product keeps costing more than its standard, check its recipe: Set up a recipe or parts list.
