Supermarket, minimart or grocery

A supermarket runs as a shop in Kila, with several tills and cashiers. Most add the Weighed goods rules for food sold by the kilo, and offers come off at the till by themselves.

A supermarket, minimart or grocery sells a wide range of everyday goods through several tills, many of them scanned and some, such as fruit, vegetables and meat, weighed. Kila runs it as a shop: the till is the main screen, and nothing is added or taken away for this kind of business.

What a supermarket gets from Kila is the shop’s, used at a supermarket’s pace. As Soko Fresh Mini-Mart runs it:

  • Several tills, a shift each. Each cashier opens their own shift on their till and closes it with a count: Open a shift. An X reading prints a shift so far without closing it, and Check the trading day shows every till’s day in one place.
  • Food sold by the kilo. A supermarket does not start with the rules for selling by weight. Soko Fresh Mini-Mart added them: its Business profile shows Weighed goods under Rules that apply (2). With them, the till weighs fruit, vegetables and meat, reads the scale’s labels and sells by amount: see Change quantities and sell by weight and Selling by weight.
  • Offers at the till. A promotion comes off by itself when the cart qualifies: four bottles of Fizzi Cola say “Fizzi Cola 500ml: buy 3, get 1 free: you save KES 70.00” (3), and the total says You saved KES 70.00 (4).
  • Loyalty points that members earn on every sale and spend at the till: How loyalty points work.
  • Returned goods inspected before they go back on sale: Inspect returned goods.
