How it works

Your home page

What the cards on an owner's home page show for a shop, and the period in detail below them, for every branch or one.

Find it
Dashboard, or search dashboard in Kila

Your home page, Dashboard at the top of the menu, is what Kila opens when you sign in: “Here is how Mwangi Hardware is doing across all branches”. Owners and managers see all of it. A role without the full dashboard, such as a storekeeper, sees only the cards about its work: “Here is the work waiting at Mwangi Hardware”. A cashier’s home is the till instead.

The cards come first, in the order your kind of business needs them. Each shows when its feature is on and your role may see it. A shop’s cards:

  • Sales today against the same day last week
  • Tills open and their takings
  • Top sellers today
  • Low or out of stock
  • Gross margin and Margin watch
  • Payments waiting for confirmation
  • Approvals and reviews waiting
  • Products without a KRA item code
  • Licences, permits and returns due
  • Services due and reminders

At Mwangi Hardware they show:

  • Sales today against the same day last week (1): today’s sales so far against the same time last week, then each branch with its change.
  • Tills open and their takings (2): each till open, who is on it, its branch, since when and what it has taken, and the shifts to review.
  • Top sellers today: the products that took the most money today.
  • Low or out of stock: products at or below their reorder level at each branch, with Reorder.
  • Gross margin and Margin watch: today’s margin and gross profit against last week, and any price below its minimum margin.
  • Payments waiting for confirmation: “Do not ask the customer to pay again.”
  • Approvals and reviews waiting: the requests by kind, and what waits for review. See What needs approval, and why.
  • Products without a KRA item code, and Licences, permits and returns due.

Tap a card’s title, or Open, to go to where the work is done. See the trading day opens the whole trading day.

At the top (3), choose All branches or one branch, and the period: Today, 7 days, 30 days, This month or Custom. The home page starts with 7 days at all branches. A business with more than one legal entity can choose one as well.

Below the cards, The period in detail (4) covers the period you chose: Sales, Transactions, Average basket, Gross margin, Refunds and Open shifts, each against the period before. Then the charts: Sales trend, How customers paid, Sales by branch, Top sellers and When customers buy. Last come the panels: approvals, M-Pesa not confirmed yet, shifts, stock, receivables and credit, deliveries, expenses and recent activity.

The period in detail (4) for 7 days: a notice of M-Pesa payments not confirmed yet, then sales, transactions, average basket, gross margin, refunds and open shifts against the previous 7 days, the sales trend by day and how customers paid. The period in detail (4) for 7 days: a notice of M-Pesa payments not confirmed yet, then sales, transactions, average basket, gross margin, refunds and open shifts against the previous 7 days, the sales trend by day and how customers paid.

eTIMS (test mode). The eTIMS panel counts invoices “confirmed by the eTIMS test service, not by KRA”. They are not valid fiscal receipts yet.

Good to know

“Figures update every minute.” The figures follow the trading day: at Mwangi Hardware it runs 04:00 to 04:00 the next morning, so a sale after midnight counts for the evening before.
