Step by step
Set a credit limit and payment terms
Let a customer buy on account up to a limit you choose, and give them a number of days to pay each sale.
The credit limit is the most a customer may owe you at one time. The payment terms are the days they have to pay for each sale on account. With a limit set, the cashier can put a sale on the customer’s account, and Kila keeps it as an invoice due when the terms run out.
Open the customer and tap Edit
Find the customer under Customers › All customers, open them and tap Edit.
Type the credit limit
In Credit account, type the Credit limit. Kila shows the most you can set, such as “You can set up to KES 250,000.” for a credit officer.
Set the payment terms
Type the Payment terms in days: how long the customer has to pay each sale on account, such as 30.
Tap Save changes
Kila says Customer updated. On the customer’s page, Credit account shows how much of the limit is used, then what is left and the terms, such as “KES 55,820.00 left. Terms: 30 days.”
At the till

When they take the payment, On account shows what is left, such as KES 55,820 left. Each sale on account goes on the customer’s statement, due when the terms run out. The cashier’s steps: Sell on credit.
Who can set a limit
Link to this section: Who can set a limitThe most a person can set is their role’s credit approval limit, Credit agreements up to under Users and roles. The owner can set any amount. Kila’s standard roles start with these:
| Role | Highest credit limit they can set |
|---|---|
| Administrator | KES 1,000,000 |
| General manager | KES 500,000 |
| Credit officer | KES 250,000 |
| Branch manager | KES 100,000 |
| Cashier | KES 0 |
Needs a manager
New customers start with the payment terms in Settings › Credit, as Default payment terms: “For new credit customers.” The owner or an administrator changes it there. To change a role’s limit, see Set approval limits for a role.
The limit is above your own

- Follow up an overdue account: who is late, and promises to pay.
- Print a customer statement: every charge and payment on the account.
- Record a payment on account: when the customer pays.
