Step by step
Draft a document from a template
Fill in one of the firm's approved templates from the matter, file it on the matter as a draft, and have someone else review it before it leaves the firm.
The firm’s approved templates fill themselves in from the matter: the client, the property, the price, the references. Kila files the result on the matter as a draft, and a second person reviews it before it goes out. In the demo, Dennis Mutua (conveyancing paralegal) drafts the letter of offer for the sale of Beatrice Nyambura Waweru’s land in Othaya, and Cynthia Achieng (associate) approves it.
Open Draft from a template
Go to Practice › Documents: “Every document on the matters you may open. Search what they say, filter and open them.” Tap Draft from a template: “A letter, pleading or agreement filled in from the matter, filed on it as a draft for review.”
Choose the matter and the template
Under 1. The matter, type its number, name or client and choose it. 2. The template then lists the “Approved templates for this kind of matter.”, such as Agreement for sale (LSK Conditions of Sale, 2015), Completion statement (purchaser) and Letter of offer (sale of land, subject to contract) for a sale of land. Choose one. The Preview shows it filled in from the matter.
Fill in what the matter does not hold
Under 3. File it, Kila lists what is missing: “The matter has no value for these. Fill them in here, or leave them in [brackets] to complete in the draft.” For the letter of offer, these are the Opposing advocate and the Completion days. The preview takes them in.
File it as a draft
Check the Title and choose the Format: Word (to edit) or PDF (to send or sign). Tap File it as a draft. The document opens on the firm’s letterhead as a Draft, with Version 1 · Made from a template.
Ask for review
Tap More and Ask for review: “The reviewer approves it or asks for changes. Whoever wrote the version never approves it.” Choose the Reviewer, or leave Anyone who approves (“Leave it to any advocate or partner on the matter, or choose one.”). Add Needed by and What to look at if they help, and tap Send for review. The document shows In review: version 1.
The reviewer approves it
The reviewer finds it in Documents › Review: “Drafts waiting for a second pair of eyes before they leave the firm. Whoever wrote a version never approves it.” Cynthia opens it, reads “Asked by Dennis Mutua just now of Cynthia Achieng”, with its due date and what to look at, adds a comment if she wants and taps Approve. The document is Approved.
