KES … more than is due
The amount you entered for an M-Pesa payment is more than the bill. Kila records the full amount received and asks what happens to the difference: change in cash, or credit for the customer.
What it means
Link to this section: What it meansThe customer sent more than the bill, and you entered what came in, as on their M-Pesa message, in Amount received. Kila records the full amount, so your records match the M-Pesa statement, and asks you what happens to the difference before it takes the payment. The same choice comes up for a card or a bank transfer above the bill.
What to do
Link to this section: What to do- Check the amount against the customer‘s message. If you typed it wrong, correct Amount received.
- Choose what happens to the difference:
- Give change in cash pays it back from your drawer, such as “KES 50.00 from the drawer”.
- Keep as customer credit, when a customer is on the sale, keeps it for them: ”… can spend it later”.
- Tap Use code …, or Record M-Pesa as received when there is no code.
- Give the change: the screen says Change to give and the amount.
Good to know
Change for an M-Pesa overpayment comes out of your drawer, so your shift expects that much less cash at the close. A business that takes tips can also offer Tip for staff.
