Step by step
Rent a chair to a stylist
A self-employed stylist rents a chair. Kila bills the rent to their own account, holds what their clients pay, and settles with them net of the rent and your fee.
A self-employed stylist can rent a chair in your salon instead of working for you. Kila bills their rent to their own account, holds what their clients pay at your till, and settles with them: the takings held, less the rent they owe and your fee if you take one. At Glow Studio, Tony Mwaura rents a chair for KES 4,500 a week.

- The stylist is in Services › Staff and resources.

Go to Front desk › Chair renters: “Self-employed stylists renting a chair: their rent is billed to their own account; what their clients pay is held for them and settled net of rent.” Each renter’s line gives the Rent, your Fee, the Takings held for them and the Rent owing.
Tap Add a chair renter
Choose the stylist
Under Stylist, choose them. Someone who already rents a chair is not in the list.
Set the rent
Enter the Rent (KES) and choose Every: Week or Month.
Set your fee, if you take one
Your fee on takings (%) is a share of what their clients pay. Leave it empty to use the Fee on takings (%) from Front desk settings. Under Their phone, add their number “For rent reminders and their account.”

Settle with a renter
Link to this section: Settle with a renterTap the renter
On Chair renters, tap their line. Their panel opens with the rent under their name.
Check what is held and owed
At the top: Takings held, Rent owing, Fee and To pay out, which is what is left of the takings after your fee and the rent owing. Below are the visits behind the takings held, and the earlier Settlements, such as “RS-000003 · 11 Oct 2026, KES 1,164 − KES 1,164 = KES 0”.
Choose how you pay out
Under Settle now, choose Pay out by: Cash, M-Pesa or Bank transfer. For M-Pesa, enter the M-Pesa code of the money you send; for a bank transfer, the Bank reference.

End a rental
Link to this section: End a rentalIn the renter’s panel, tap End the rental. Kila asks End this rental?: “The rent stops. Takings already held can still be settled.” Say why under Why and tap End the rental.
What the renter sees
Link to this section: What the renter seesA renter signs in on their phone to My day, like any stylist, and sees only their own clients and takings. Under what they earned, Kila shows what is held for them, such as Held for you: KES 4,526, with “Rent KES 4,500 a week · owing KES 6,629 · you would be paid KES 0.” and when they were last settled.
Good to know
A renter’s clients book, check in and pay at your till like everyone else’s. A renter is paid from their takings, not by commission: Glow Studio gives Tony Mwaura 0% under Services › Commissions.
To pay out is KES 0
Link to this section: To pay out is KES 0The rent owing is as much as the takings held, or more. All of the takings go to the rent, so nothing is paid out, and any rent still owing stays on their account.
